A little lemon juice can go a long way if you are dealing with the odor in one small area of the carpet. Mix lemon juice with a little water and scrub it into the area using a clean cloth. Rinse the area and clean the lemon juice away using your steam cleaner with a small amount of detergent. Allow it to dry and the smell should be gone.
